Protective Proceedings

When a person cannot legally care for him or herself due to incapacity or youth, it is sometimes necessary to go to court to have a formal caretaker appointed.

A Guardian is responsible for taking care of an individual and can essentially make decisions for an individual that a parent would make for a child.  A Conservator is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of an individual.  These two roles often go hand-in-hand.

Protective proceedings are initiated with the court, and require ongoing interaction with the court until the individual is no longer in need of protection and the proceedings are ended.
